Congratulations to CMS Teacher of the Year, Adria Merritt!

Congratulations Ms Merritt!  Also congratulations to three very special educators who were recognized by NNPS at the awards ceremony: Sheila Patrick, 8th grade Assistant Principal, Dwayne Banks, Technology Education and Ms Beryl Massie-Brown, 8th grade Math Teacher. All three were recognized for their 30-years of service to Newport News Public Schools.

8th Grader Daily Press Editorial Posted
As part of the 8th grade Civics & Economics Curriculum, Ms. Fortunato had her students take part in projects ranging from gathering food for food banks, clothing for homeless shelters and writing letters to various government officials and editorials to newspapers. This Spring the class came with a twist! Jangmi Paik’s class assignment, an editorial written to the Daily Press regarding food insecurity and the necessity of volunteering and food drives, was published in the March 12th edition of the online Daily Press!

NJHS MS BEATS HS To Become Quiz Bowl Champs!
The CMS National Junior Honor Society attended the WEB DuBois Honors Conference at Hampton University. The Middle School Quiz Bowl team may have been the youngest team in the Quiz Bowl room, but they never let that stop them. Losing their first round of Middle School questions to a High School team, the Cougars pulled out their Smartphones and Googled ‘Quiz Bowl Questions’- searching for the question sets that had been released to them just the day before. Studying between sets, the Cougars quickly bypassed ALL of the High School teams, becoming the Quiz Bowl Champions! You can follow their path to success and catch a glimpse of them holding their Quiz Bowl trophy at Twitter.com/Critt_Tech.
